What Makes Texas-Style Unique

Texas style fiddling is a distinctive American fiddle tradition blending technical virtuosity, rhythmic drive and expressive musicality. While rooted in early Celtic fiddle traditions brought to Texas in the 19th century, Texas style has evolved into something uniquely its own shaped by the State's vast geography, diverse cultures and music oriented social life.

Texas fiddlers infuse power and drive into their play using difficult chord structures, swing influenced rhythms, improvised variations and showmanship.

The Birth of Fiddlers' Frolics

The Texas State Championship Fiddlers Frolics was established in 1971 to preserve the unique tradition of Texas style fiddling for the benefit of future generations.

Now in its 55th year, the Fiddlers Frolics is being held in Hallettsville, TX the weekend of April 24-26th featuring world class Texas style fiddle competition, a BBQ Cook Off competition and live bands.

The Fiddle Contest

For over a century, fiddle contests have been central to preserving, advancing and celebrating Texas style fiddling. The fiddle contests held across the State bring communities together through dances, picnics and celebrations centered around the fiddle contests.

These gatherings pass Texas musical traditions from one generation to the next, encourage innovation while honoring tradition, and create a pathway for young musicians to learn from the masters, compete and excel.

Through established standards of excellence, which reward musicianship, originality, timing and tone, Texas style fiddling has evolved to become one of the most technically advanced fiddle traditions in the world.

The Fiddlers Frolics Weekend

Texas State Fiddle Championship

On Saturday and Sunday fiddlers of all ages will compete for prize money across different age groups and divisions from Freshman, Juniors, Seniors, Twin Fiddle, Guitar, Gone to Texas, featuring some of the best fiddlers from around the country and capped off with the Texas State Fiddle Championship, which is always highly competitive and entertaining.
